Pacific Rim
MIXED MEDIA PITCH DECK
The kaiju black market is rampant in the world of Pacific Rim and this case reflects the seedy underbelly of the business with all its risks and rewards. Created from an aluminum case and filled will all manner of “kaiju parts”; culled from a multitude of places. Each item was created from either actual dried ingredients, such as fungi, fish, roots, etc. All hand dyed and painted then vacuum-sealed. The books were hidden in the removable panel holding the test tubes.
Kaiju flesh was created from magic sculpt and hand molded and painted. Petri dishes were made from pickled items, dried and sealed in their own case. A hand held powerful microscope, as well as slides of different samples was included so the producers and director could examine each item closely.
Each item had a label along with it’s description in Chinese. A QR code was attached that when scanned would open a map of where the part was harvested, what part of the kaiju it came from, a detailed view of the item and its medicinal/recreational uses written in Chinese.
Guillermo del Toro was so enamored with the case it inspired the creation of a viral video of the character Hannibal Chau, along with awarding us the campaign.
